It's ok that I hit "snooze" for an hour, right? I mean, it doesn't mean that I have a problem or issues or anything... it just means I'm sleepy... and it's Friday... so it's allowed... right?
God, I'm pathetic. Dear Potential 122-er, I’m sorry. I lied. I’m a horrible liar – but I did it. I put in the “About Steve” page that I was “a bit of a sci-fi nerd.” And that’s just not true. I’m actually “(quite) a bit of a sci-fi nerd.” Does this mean that I go to Comic-Con’s and only have conversations about Transwarp Drives? No. I’ve only walked past a Comic-Con (because I didn’t have tickets – here’s the pic.) And I only have brief conversations about Transwarp Drives because, well, let’s be honest, it’s an unreliable system in Federation starships.
Anyway – I’m getting away from the main point of this post. I’m a sci-fi nerd. There it is. I said it. I've decided I like the curtains that I made - and I've decided I need to make a few more for each window to give it a fuller look. I'm really just making this up as I go along. I'm not into interior design at all - but it sounds like it should be what I need right? Fuller window treatments?
(Can you call them "window treatments" if you made them from scrap fabric? My guess is no.) Alright, so the Gay Men's Chorus of LA is holding dance auditions tomorrow for the upcoming 80's show "Totally."
The auditions are tomorrow night and I'm already hyperventilating about them. I'm not necessarily a dancer. I enjoy dancing. Or at least my version of dancing - it's more flailing than anything. Don't get me wrong, I do my best to flail to the beat, but it's just flailing nonetheless. So if GMCLA's dance team is looking for someone to just stand off to the side and flail while the rest do the moves, well then - I'm their man. I forgot to mention in the last post why I titled it "Domesticated yet manly" - because I also purchased a power tool. It's a power screw driver - and I needed it to screw in the curtain rod brackets. So even though I sew my own curtains, I'm still manly enough to install them myself - that counts for a few masculine points, right?
... what if I drink a beer afterwards? (I won't be drinking a beer afterwards. I'd rather have a cosmo...) This week I decided I was sick of the blinds in my room. So I borrowed a friends sewing machine and decided to make myself curtains. Why make them, you ask? For two reasons - 1) I have a box of black fabric that I got for an event and didn't end up using AND 2) I'm cheap and didn't want to pay for curtains. SO - here's the sewing station I created in my dining room. And yes - that is a couch in the dining area - but it's cool, I promise. ANNNND - here are the curtains I made: Are they pretty - not really. Will they win any awards? Absolutely not.
Were they cheap and kept me busy on a Sunday? Yes. I guess I could steam them to get those wrinkles out - but that will just happen over time anyway right? (And I'm lazy... so there's that.) So today is the first of May. (Quick Side Note: Did anyone else make May Baskets as a child and hand them out to your friends on May Day? Was that just a Nebraska thing?) Anyway, today is May 1st - so I'm no longer the Sally on my friend's website (www.12goals12months.com). April was a great month. One of the biggest and best – but now that I'm in my post-Sally days, I have to keep looking and moving forward. That’s all we can do, right? And because that felt a bit too deep for this blog – here’s a song called "First Of May" by Jonathan Coulton which is awesome (CAUTION: Contains Adult Language - NOT suitable for work): Alright, I'm a fan of the Scream Movies - so should I go see Scream 4 or wait for video? I'm really trying to budget, and I'm trying to only go to movies in theaters that are "BIG SCREEN" movies - (think Avatar, Star Trek, Love & Other Drugs, etc) - and I'm not sure Scream 4 constitutes as a big screen movie...
... and if you know of a place where I can see a 30-foot tall and mostly-naked Jake Gyllenhaal again, please share. Aaron Copland ROCKS!!!!
I just came into my room where I had left my iTunes Radio on to Classical KDFC out of San Francisco. They were playing Fanfare For The Common Man - and that's pretty awesome. And it leads me to reveal the following fact about me: I love classical music. I do. I'm not sure how it happened - it's not like central Nebraska was a haven to classical artists and/or performances - but there's just something completely awesome about classical music. That's not to say that I don't enjoy other types of music - pop, jazz, rock, country, showtunes (hello!), etc. But how great is a bottle of wine and some classical music at the Hollywood Bowl!?! (Answer: really great) I'm not a crazy snob about it. I won't talk your ear off about which Brandenburg Concerto is my favorite (cough - No. 3), but you might get into my car and it might be on the radio. Of course, you might get in my car and I'm blasting the latest hit from Young Jeezy, too. It could really go either way. (Alright, I'll admit it - I have no idea who Young Jeezy is - but I'm sure he has some jams.) |
